The wind just keeps on blowing but today from the NW, if I had some foiling gear I might have been tempted by a trip to the River Stour, instead I stayed local and took a chance on the River Orwell at Levington, it was nice to be back as haven’t sailed there since the 4th April, in fact I haven’t foiled either since 22nd of April:( With high tide around 10.30. a good breeze and wall to wall sunshine I left fairly early arriving at the marina around 8.30 after arranging with Mag to bike over for lunch around midday:) I was hoping that the wind would be WNW and strong enough to shortboard but the wind was probably NW a little too off so it was another trip out on the longboard, my 6th this month, just love that board! I went with my favourite 8.5 and was on the water at 9 and quickly realised I was on the limit at times it but stuck it out for very nearly 4 hours so it must have been OK:) I had no plans for today’s session but because of the good wind I decided to start off broad reaching down to Felixstowe, just me and a few yachts plus a selection of birds with some big blue Suffolk skies. My gybing is certainly much better on flatter water and I landed just short of the last berth for my first photo session. I then headed over and did a quick stop at Shotley before starting the beat back which was completed easily. Back at the marina and the wind still good I continued to head upwind to Pin Mill, sailing through the middle of several racing yachts heading out to sea before landing near the famous boat graveyard just short of Pin Mill where I stopped once again for wander around the old wrecks with my camera. After my snack I was looking forward to some fast reaching back. So, with the track back and the daggerboard I set off, one good reach over to Nacton Shores but the tide was now going out and the wind had eased down but I made it back to the marina with no problems and with no sign of Mag I had one more run towards the docks. It was a slow beat back against the tide in lighter winds but I made it in the end and Mag was on the bench waiting:) She had had a good bike ride down spotting loads of wildlife including her first two Hares of the year. She also spoke to a man out walking his dog by the small pond who worked with Simon Chippington who is out taking part in the Defiwind, a long distance windsurfing race at Gruissan where the winds have been very strong, around 40 knots! Sat on the bench with Mag hearing about her morning watch a small dredger working in the marina channel before heading for a shower. Relaxing lunch, yummy chicken sandwiches before packing up and heading for home, pretty knackered but I think that the wind finished for me for several days so can have a rest!
